ABOUT INDIGO
What is Indigo Powder? The Ancient Natural Hair Dye from India

Indigo powder is made from the dried and ground leaves of the Indigofera Tinctoria plant, a shrub native to India and tropical Asia. In Hindi it is called Neel. The word Indigo comes from the Latin Indicum, meaning a product of India. It has been used as a natural dye and hair colour ingredient for thousands of years.

On its own, indigo gives hair a blue green tone. When used after henna in the two step method, it creates rich brown to deep black shades depending on the ratio. The dye is fully plant based with no ammonia, no PPD, no parabens and no bleach.

We are among the few indigo powder suppliers India who control quality all the way from leaf to final packaged powder. Our original indigo powder comes from Indigofera Tinctoria plants grown in India and processed in hygienic conditions to retain full dye potency.

HOW TO USE
How to Use Indigo Powder, The Two Step Method

Step 1, Apply Henna First

Mix henna powder with warm water into a smooth paste and let it rest for 2 to 4 hours so the dye releases. Apply on clean hair from root to tip wearing gloves, cover and leave for 2 to 3 hours, then rinse with plain water and do not shampoo at this stage.

Step 2, Apply Indigo Powder

Mix indigo powder with warm water and let it rest 5 to 10 minutes only, as it loses potency quickly. Apply immediately over henna treated hair, cover and leave for 1 to 2 hours, then rinse with plain water and avoid shampoo for 48 hours so the colour sets.

HAIR BENEFITS
Hair Benefits of Pure Indigo Powder

Natural Black or Brown Hair Color

Used with henna, indigo binds with hair keratin to create lasting dark shades from warm brown to deep black. The colour is natural looking and fades gradually over 4 to 6 weeks.

Slows Premature Greying

Regular use of indigo herbal hair colour is known in Ayurvedic tradition to slow early greying. Many long term users report less grey regrowth, though results vary by individual.

Strengthens Hair Roots

Natural compounds in Indigofera Tinctoria help reinforce hair follicles and reduce hair fall over regular use, supporting healthier, stronger roots over time.

Anti Dandruff Action

Natural antimicrobial and antifungal properties reduce scalp flakes and itching, bringing the scalp back to a healthy balance without dryness.

Adds Shine and Softness

Indigo coats the hair shaft and smooths frizz, adding a natural sheen to dull or damaged hair, with buyers reporting improved texture after the first few uses.

Safe for All Hair Types

Our stock carries no ammonia, no PPD and no bleach. It is safe for sensitive scalps, suitable for men and women of all ages, with no chemical buildup.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions

Can indigo powder be used alone to color hair?

Yes, but the result depends on your natural hair colour. On white or grey hair indigo alone usually gives a blue to bluish green tint. On light hair it may create a cool blue green shade. On dark hair it adds a subtle darker tone and shine. For a natural black or dark brown colour, indigo is used after henna, which creates a base that lets indigo develop into a rich black or brown shade.

Is indigo powder the same as black henna?

No. Black henna sold in some markets contains PPD, a chemical that can cause severe allergic reactions. Our indigo powder is 100% pure Indigofera Tinctoria with no PPD and no chemical additives. True black hair colour is achieved by using henna first and indigo second in the two step method.

Is the Indigofera Tinctoria plant available for purchase?

We supply indigo powder, which is dried and processed leaf powder. We do not sell the live plant. If you need raw indigo leaves or plant material in large volume, please contact us with your specific requirement.
